I was considering taking the day off and not writing a blog post today because it’s Mother’s Day, and I wanted to spend time with my little kiddo and sweet husband.

But then I realized—I wouldn’t even be writing this blog, and I might not have been a reader at all, if it weren’t for my mom.

Growing up, she quickly inspired a deep love of books in me. She would tell me to pick some out and then read them to me—no limit. If I grabbed a stack of ten at once (which, she says, was very common), then we were reading all ten books.

We went to the library weekly to pick out new books and enjoy reading time together. It was the best part of the week.

In high school, she was always reading. I still have a vivid memory of her devouring the Twilight series in what felt like a week. She sat in her favorite spot on the couch with the whole stack of Twilight books next to her on the floor, reading late into the night.

Now, as an adult, it’s such a joy to pass book recommendations back and forth with her. We’ll talk about different parts of books—loving them or even hating them. And to this day, I know she’s reading at least a book a week on the Kindle app on her phone.

Happy Mother’s Day to my book-loving, sassy mom—and to all the other bookish (or non-bookish) mamas out there.

Being a mother is not for the faint of heart, and every mother deserves to be celebrated today. 💐
