Hello everyone!
I hope life is treating you well and giving you plenty of time to read some sweet, cozy romance books. ;) If so, I have a great summer read for you, and I can’t wait to share!
To start off, this book hit really close to home for me—literally. It takes place in a fictional town called Kitt’s Harbor in the beautiful state of Washington.
I grew up in a small town in WA, in what felt like the woods, surrounded by mountains and plenty of orchards with amazingly delicious fresh fruit. I absolutely loved growing up there. A significant part of my summers was spent either playing sports or going to the lake (which was actually a river, but is still affectionately called “The Lake”).
This book made me feel like I was back home in the woods enjoying another family camping trip, so I hope it can bring that same vibe to each of you interested in reading it.
The Book: Girl Meets Grump by Hailey Gardiner
It’s a grumpy x sunshine trope (my personal favorite!). Most of the story takes place at a beautiful camp called Wildwood. Trent Stewart is the grumpy designer of the cabins featured at Wildwood, while Sydney Foster is a travel blogger looking to settle down at home for a bit.
Sydney enjoys a stay at Wildwood and is later hired to be the property manager—much to Trent’s chagrin. They argue, they disagree, they annoy each other… and they might just fall in love? You’ll have to read it to find out! (Available on KU!)
If you enjoy any of the following:
Enemies to lovers
Opposites attract
The great outdoors
And good vibes
This book is for you!
Recommendations on How to Enjoy Girl Meets Grump
Where to read: If you’re lucky enough, read this book in a cabin in the woods this summer. My more realistic suggestions? Try reading it while camping, outside in a hammock, or (the easiest option) under the shade of a nice tree.
What to snack on:
If you're wanting to channel bubbly Sydney energy: sip an Alani Nu or a peach Monster (my favorite!).
If you're feeling a little grumpy like Trent: eat a s’more! Even a microwave s’more will make your day better. Life Hack: swap in your favorite candy for the Hershey bar. I always use Almond Joys. This hack will rock your world!
Who to share your thoughts with: Once you finish the book, you’ll want to chat it up about the swoony love story. Maybe you have a grump of your own, or a sister who doubles as your best friend. And of course—I’d love to hear your thoughts too! Reach out to me at shelfobsessedbooks@gmail.com.
On a Serious Note…
I do want to mention that author Hailey Gardiner passed away earlier this year, and I’m sad to say I discovered her books and Instagram after this happened.
She was a wife and mother of two young kiddos. There’s a story highlight on her Instagram page @authorhaileygardiner (look for the white heart and angel wings) with a link to donate to her family, if you feel inclined.
Purchasing a physical copy of her books would also be a beautiful way to support her sweet family.
Naturally, I didn’t know her personally, but I sincerely wish her family comfort as they navigate such a heartbreaking loss. I feel like any author would love to know that their words live on—and I will recommend any and all of her books that I enjoy. I encourage you to read them too!
Read Girl Meets Grump and let me know what you think. I hope it brings you all the cozy camping vibes we all need this summer.
I’m happy you’re here :)
